The CITB Health & Safety Awareness 1-Day Course, commonly known as the CSCS Course, is designed for individuals who are new to or already working in the construction and civil engineering industries. As part of the CITB Site Safety Plus initiative, the course provides essential knowledge and practical guidance on maintaining health, safety, and wellbeing on construction sites.

The training covers key health and safety responsibilities, the roles of workers and employers, and the appropriate actions to take when a person’s health, safety, or wellbeing may be at risk. It is suitable for anyone looking to improve their understanding of safe working practices within the construction environment.

Important: Participants under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian before attending the course.

Objectives

At the end of the Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness Course, successful candidates will understand:

  • The purpose of their assigned duties and why they are important.
  • What is expected of them in their specific role, including their responsibilities on site.
  • How they can contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for themselves, colleagues, and others.

Agenda

The CITB Health & Safety Awareness Course Covers:

  • An understanding of health and safety legislation and the responsibilities it places on workers.
  • How individual workers contribute to the overall control and management of health and safety on site.
  • The importance of risk assessments and method statements in identifying and controlling potential hazards.
  • The need to follow safe working practices and seek advice whenever a task or situation is unclear.
  • The responsibility to report unsafe acts, conditions, or practices to help prevent accidents and protect everyone on site.

To successfully complete the assessment, delegates must achieve a minimum score of 80% (20 out of 25 questions). In addition to meeting the overall pass mark, all 3 safety-critical questions must be answered correctly.
