This card is issued after successfully completing the relevant CPCS Theory and Practical Tests at an approved CPCS test centre. Before taking these technical tests, candidates must also hold a valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test certificate.
Once approved, the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years and helps operators gain site experience while working towards the Blue Competent Operator Card.

The CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card confirms that an operator has the knowledge, practical ability and recognised qualification needed to operate specific plant machinery safely on site.
This card is usually achieved after progressing from the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card. To upgrade, candidates must complete the relevant NVQ or equivalent qualification for their plant category.
Once issued, the Blue Competent Operator Card is valid for five years, giving employers confidence in your skills and site competence.
