The NPORS Trained Operator Card is awarded after passing both the CPS Theory and Practical assessments, which must be carried out through an NPORS-approved testing centre.
Candidates must have passed the appropriate CITB Health, Safety & Environment test within the last two years before sitting the technical assessments.
After successfully completing the NPORS technical tests, the Trained Operator Card is issued and remains valid for a two-year period.

qualified to operate your specific type of plant machinery. It proves you have practical
experience, the necessary skills, and a solid understanding of Health & Safety.
This card is a step up from the Trained Operator Card, which is only valid for two years. Within
that time, you must complete the relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to progress.
An NVQ confirms that you can perform your job to the industry standard.
The Competent Operator Card is valid for five years from the date your application is processed.
Each machine category listed on the card will share the card’s overall expiry date.

Call Expert Start ApplicationThe NPORS Card proves that a plant operator has received certified training and assessment to safely and competently use specific machinery. It is recognised across the UK construction industry as evidence of skill and compliance with safety standards.
There are two main types: the Trained Operator Card, issued after successfully completing NPORS Theory and Practical tests, and the Competent Operator Card, which requires completing an NVQ and demonstrates a higher level of experience.
To get a Trained Operator Card, you must pass the NPORS Theory and Practical tests at an accredited NPORS test centre. You must also have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test within the last two years.
To upgrade, you must complete the relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) during the 2-year validity of your Trained Operator Card. Once you achieve the NVQ, you can apply for the 5-year Competent Operator Card.
Once you pass the required tests and your documents are approved, your NPORS card is usually delivered within 7–10 working days.
