The 360 Excavator course covers essential knowledge and practical skills, including:
The CPCS offers a wide range of plant categories, with practical and theory assessments designed to confirm your competence. Assessments are completed at the end of your training.
Once you achieve your CPCS Red Card, you can begin working in your chosen category. The card confirms your essential skills and knowledge, while newly qualified operators require close supervision until they gain sufficient experience. The Blue CPCS Card recognises experienced operators who can work safely without supervision.
Each category on your CPCS Red Card is valid for two years, although the card itself does not have an overall expiry date. The Red Card is non-renewable and is intended to support progression towards the Blue CPCS Competent Operator Card. Within the two-year period, operators are expected to complete the relevant NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) or SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualification) and upgrade to the Blue CPCS Card.
CPCS Blue Card
To obtain your CPCS Blue Card, you must meet the Red Card requirements and successfully complete
the relevant NVQ or SVQ for your chosen category.
The Blue Card is valid for five years, with all categories sharing the same expiry date. You
must renew your card before the five-year validity period ends.
Courses are available for both new learners and experienced excavator operators.
Complete the training to apply for a CPCS Red Card or keep your Blue Card valid.
CPCS is widely recognised across the UK for plant and machinery operators.
The course includes practical training with real excavator operating exercises.
A valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test taken within the last two years is required.
You will complete both a theory assessment and a practical CPCS technical test.
